	241 Americans Killed Bombed U.S. Marine Barracks October 23, 1983 - Beirut, Lebanon

In 1982, at the request of the Lebanese government, the United States established a peacekeeping force between Muslims and Christians in Beirut. The Muslim forces however viewed the soldiers as their enemies and frequently attacked them with artillery and mortar. On October 23, 1983 a large Islamic Jihad (Hizballah) truck loaded with 2,500 pounds of TNT crashed through the main gate of the U.S. Marine Headquarters in Beirut, Lebanon killing 241 USA Army, Marine and Navy servicemen and wounding 81. Two minutes later another Islamic Jihad (Hizballah) truck packed with explosives crashed into a French base two miles away killing 58 soldiers.The attacks were carried out by Hizballah with the help of Syrian intelligence and financed by Iran. Sadly, so many of our heroes have be forgotten who died in earlier events in the 1980s.My Marine was killed in the barracks on 23 October, 1983. I noticed his name is incorrectly spelled and I wanted to give you the correct spelling: LCpl Virgel Hamilton. I also attached a couple pictures so that you can see the face of a man about whom you have reminded all who see your site. I am a free-lance writer presently writing a story about one of the Marines that was in the Bombing of the Marine Barracks in Beirut and I would like to share with anyone interested the conditions in which he lives.
